SaphyGATE G is a fast-to-use portal monitor radioactivity optimized for radiation control in trucks, trains and cargo. It is based on large-surface, high-volume plastic detectors providing the highest sensitivity. User-friendly and fully automatic system with new adaptive algorithms to compensate the radioactive background, allowing improved sensitivity with extremely rare false alarms. Is recommended for landfill and recycling sites, steel industry, border control and nuclear facilities.
Reaching high measurement performances and resisting heavy conditions, this system is specially designed for detection of very low artificial and natural radioactive sources in truck, train and cargo loads.
The main components of the system are a high-volume plastic scintillation gamma detectors (1000 x 500 x 500 mm, 25 liters) with lead shields and multi channel analyzers, central processing unit with 12 ”color LCD touch screen, software package (includes: Windows Embedded, RPMVision HMI, remote assistance) in English - German - French or Italian (other languages on request).
Its smart algorithm tracks the background attenuation due to vehicle shielding in order to strongly reduce the false alarm rate. The association between high volume plastic scintillators, the spectrometry electronic board and the algorithm enables reliability and performance in alarm classification for the discrimination of natural and artificial radiation.
As the vehicle passes through the system, a measurement process is started between detectors located on both sides of the detection area (for example in front of the balance) and automatically calculates the best alarm thresholds adjusted to background radioactivity and protective effects caused by the vehicle. Vehicle protect the natural gamma rays coming from the ground when it passes through the system. Therefore, the alarm thresholds need to be lowered during the measurement. At the end of the measurement process, the system returns to the original background monitoring mode. After each measurement, all important measurement information (date and time, background radiation level, count, alarm or not) is stored in a secure database that allows easy retrieval.
In case of alarm, a buzzer and a red lamp mounted on the central unit and an alarm signal on the HMI sw are activated. The system graphically displays and records the location of the source or contaminated material in the vehicle. The measurement is dynamic (possible also in static one), and the system also checks the speed in order to ensure the best sensitivity.
As option "alarm classification" software informs the operator automatically about the classification as ”Alarm-Artificial”, ”Alarm-Artificial-Industrial" or ”Alarm-Artificial-Medical”. When the event is classified and the necessary data has been collected, an additional algorithm is applied for estimating the potential contaminant, analyzing energy spectrum and the on-site background energy spectrum of the total count channel (Cs137, Co60, Na22 for “Artificial-Industrial” or Tc99, In111, I131, Co57 for “Artificial-Medical”). If the spectral analysis is inconclusive or the origin is natural, the system will only display an "alarm“ signsystem provide a real-time indication about the possible alarm causes.
